CAVITICA Wins J/80 North American Championship
(Marion, MA)- The Beverly YC and the local J/80 Buzzards Bay fleet hosted twenty-five teams for their 2018 J/80 North American Championship held on Buzzards Bay. The fleet was challenged by a wide variety of wind and weather conditions over the three-day event that ran from Saturday to Sunday. In particular, Saturday and Sunday the fleet enjoyed ENE winds in the 15-25 kts range, making for fun, fast planing-mode rides downwind in most races. Gold For Australia & France @ World University Championship
(Cherbourg, France)- The 2018 edition of the World University Sailing Championship took place from August 30th to September 6th on the inner harbor of Cherbourg, France. The event was sailed in a matched-fleet of J/80 one-design class sailboats and was hosted by YC de Cherbourg. Inaugural J/80 Asian Championship Announcement!
(Xiamen, China)- J/80 production in China started in 2008. Since that time hundreds of J/80’s have been built in China and supplied around Asia and many into new Chinese fleets. This year production has been steady at 1 1/2 boats per week, non-stop.New fleets have developed in Qingdao, Sanya and Suzhou in 2018. The J/80 Chinese Class has been established and is now the only class in China that is working with a complete set of World Sailing class rules; including boat weight equalization, sail measurements, safety gear checks and crew weight limits being enforced. FKA Crushes J/80 East Coasts
(Boothbay Harbor, ME)- Over the August 24th to 26th weekend, the Boothbay Harbor YC hosted the 2018 J/80 East Coast Championship. A competitive fleet of sixteen J/80s from across the East Coast high-tailed it up to Maine to enjoy spectacular sailing in the gorgeous waters off Boothbay Harbor. Starting off the first day leading the regatta, Les Beckwith’s crew on FKA never looked back, despite a disappointing 10th in the 5th race. The Royal Southern Yacht Club (RSrnYC) is delighted to announce that online entry for the J/80 World Championships in 2017 is now open! The Championships are open to the

Members of the J/80 Class as defined by the J/80 Class Rule (C3.3) and entries will only be accepted via the event website: https://www.royal-southern.co.uk/J80-Worlds-2017/Enter-J80. The closing time and date for entries is 23:59 on Friday 12th May 2017.

“It is very exciting for the UK fleet that the J/80 Class will have its first Solent-based World Championship next year and we are looking forward to great racing against some of the world’s best sailors,” said Kevin Sproul, a 5-times J/80 UK National Champion.

Claire Montécot, owner of French J/80 Startijenn, sits on the French Class Committee and is working with the UK J Boats agent Key Yachting to help promote the event in France.

J/80s sailing off England Claire said: “At the recent J/80 Nationals in France, Joe Lacey and I presented at the Class dinner to make sure everyone was aware of the Worlds in Hamble next year. We also shared a video about the Royal Southern YC and handed out flyers to all competitors. I was delighted to hear that a lot of French sailors are planning to come and I will be keeping them updated on both the Worlds and French J/80 class websites.”

The Royal Southern YC, based at Hamble, which is organizing the Championships in conjunction with the J/80 UK Class Association, has published the Notice of Race (NoR), which is available for download, along with information on accommodation, travel, etc, on the event website. Regular updates will be posted to the site, which has already had more than 300 visitors with more than 55 expressions of interest being received.

The organizers are always grateful for the support of sponsors and are particularly pleased to accept the early commitment from Grapefruit Graphics and Brittany Ferries.
